Our Social Projects

Take a look at how we’re upholding health in the L.A. area!

Note: some of our work was done prior to rebranding as MedConnect from The Pre-Surgery Society

We just completed our first ever fundraiser—and what a success. We raised $1,205 in collaboration with Glendale Community College’s Scholars Program! All proceeds have been donated to UCLA’s Mattel Children’s Hospital. We are so proud to have helped in supporting local efforts to uphold the health of the society that’s immediately around us. Like UCLA MCH, we feel childhood illness is an injustice. We also recognize that treating pediatric conditions is a completely different game than treating adult conditions. To help support this side of medicine, we lended our support to a leading provider of pediatric care in the LA area.

At MedConnect, we believe that our country’s doctors also have a unique voice through which to inform public policy. This viewpoint is not always emphasized, though. Consequently, we decided to mobilize our members and our community during the 2024 Presidential Election. Much like the candidates, we kicked off our own campaign, but to encourage voter registration through our chapter at Glendale Community College. We also took to Instagram and The Rounds, where we launched a series of educative posts briefing our audience on the progressive and conservative positions on our nation’s most pressing health issues. While ethics should never be compromised for the sake of political gain, doctors are experts that work day in and day out to protect the people’s access to a great quality of life. Through education and political participation, we made it our goal to teach future doctors how to guide health forward outside the clinic!

We just completed our second fundraiser by working in collaboration with Glendale Community College’s Scholars Program, and we raised $506.73! All proceeds have been donated to Common Threads. They are a nationwide 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that takes a unique stand in the fight for creating a healthier society. Common Threads encourages better nutrition by hosting both in-person and on-demand virtual cooking and nutrition education classes taught by trained chefs. To celebrate, familiarize yourself with some crucial information about food inequities by checking out our posts on Instagram and The Rounds for the week and our recent article for The Pager. Additionally, we are currently planning a collaboration with Common Threads—keep an eye out for it!

Our Work as The Pre-Surgery Society

We’re beyond excited to officially announce that The Pre-Surgery Society will be supporting pediatric patients in Armenia by sponsoring and attending AIM Fund’s 21st anniversary gala! These proceeds will help make a difference in the lives of hearing-impaired children by providing them with cochlear implants. Thank you to The Society’s amazing team and especially our VP, Jessica, for all your hard work in making this possible, to AIM Fund for these wonderful projects, and to all of you for your invaluable support!
